Gotcha Rules
Please do not sign-up to play if you are intending to be away from campus for more than one day during the designated game running time.
How do I play GOTCHA?
As a dorm, you are competing against other dorms. Each individual, in each dorm, will be given the name of another person as his or her target. Your mission is to take them out of the game by squirting them with water. Your goal is to track down, or 'get,' as many of these targets as possible. However, you need to be careful because there will be others following you, trying to 'get' you as well.
How do I Get my Target?
To get your target you must simply hit them anywhere on the body with water. 'The body' is classified as ANYTHING that you are holding or wearing, which includes, but isn't limited to: bags (you are holding, or are holding you), jackets, pants, shoes, and hats. If anything you are holding, or wearing gets wet, you are out.
Side note: no masks are allowed, for security reasons.
The best method of carrying water is with a water bottle. Water balloons, water guns, and spitting are not allowed.
If you get someone in your dorm as your target, it is up to you to decide his or her fate. How does the scoring work? One point will be awarded for each person you squirt, and one point will be awarded to each individual who is still alive by the end of the game. Each point will go into the dorms combined score for all of Fort Week.
What do I do once I squirt someone?
Once you squirt someone, you must report your kill on the website. You enter this information in BEFORE you go for your next target. After reporting your target on the website, you will immediately receive the name of your next target. If you have been squirted, you will be reported as eliminated on the website, and will no longer be able to participate in the game.
Where am I Safe?
You cannot be killed in the:
- Enarson Gymnasium
- Reimer Student Centre
- Library
- Lower Cafeteria
- any dorm or hallways between
- Fraser 2D or 3D lounge
- Douglas upper lounge
- Northwest building
- Classrooms or hallways outside of classrooms
- Anywhere off campus
Am I safe at the nightly competitions?
Yes, complete safety is guaranteed from 9 p.m. each night until 15 minutes after each competition. This will give your dorm time to get to your event, compete, and arrive back home safely. If you are squirted 15 minutes after the event ends, you have been caught. What about Chapel? GO TO CHAPEL! Jesus is more important than staying alive in Gotcha! Once you get into the Enarson Gymnasium you are safe, but you are open to be squirted anywhere outside, at any time.
